Walking in the Andalucian countryside

Fancy a walking holiday in Spain? Do you want to go hiking in Andalucia? Interested in a trek to Granada, to Nerja or in the Sierra Nevada? Then you have come to the right place – choose a walk to suit any range of interest or fitness.

Guided and Self-Guided Walks

You can choose from our selection of self-guided walking holidays any time of the year, browse the Self-Guided Walks section of our website menu to see what we can offer you. We also run a series of guided walks throughout the year, see which guided walks we still have availability on. We can also arrange individual private walks or holidays for groups or individuals, just contact us to ask about this.

WalkSpain/Spanjeanders is an established activity holiday company, approved by the government of Andalucia (registration nr. AT/MA/00218), based in the traditional white village of Cómpeta (height 640 m), situated in the Axarquia region of Andalucia, southern Spain. Hidden in the hills at the end of a long valley we are near the coast, yet far away from mass tourism. We provide local accommodation and great value activities: Walking & Trekking holidays.

Cómpeta is surrounded by un-spoilt Spanish nature: the Tejeda and Almijara mountain chain and the large national park (more than 42.000 hectares) with the impressive mountain Maroma (2067 m) looming in the background. The airport of Málaga is just a 1-hour drive away. For arrivals at Málaga airport before 16.30 hours, Cómpeta can also be reached that day by public transportation.

The Axarquia region of Andalucia advertises itself with the slogan: ‘el mejor clima de Europa’ (the best climate of Europe) and, as we found out, that phrase is not exaggerated. Spring and autumn are ideal seasons for a walking holiday in Andalucia – with daily temperatures of 20-25º C – although the temperatures also are generally very pleasant in winter. In this region, the sun shines an average of 320 days each year and it is not uncommon for us locals to spend Christmas day with a picnic on the beach.

A traditional, white painted Andalucian village

Cómpeta is a perfect location for a walking holiday in Spain. Cómpeta village has a fantastic range of accommodations to suit every requirement and budget. We are also well supplied with many café/bars with terraces and good restaurants.

Cómpeta is an ideal destination for walking in Andalucia, as a starting point for a trek to Granada or Nerja – especially when the weather in northern Europe is chilly and rough.

At the foot of Maroma

With a car, Cómpeta is a good starting point for 1-day excursions to Cordoba, Granada, Málaga, Ronda and the Sierra Nevada mountains.

We live here already 19 years and hope to see you soon in Cómpeta for an unforgettable walking holiday in Andalucia, a great base for hiking in Spain!

Bienvenido/Welcome to Cómpeta!
