Trek from Cómpeta to Granada

A combination of walking and culture while trekking to Granada.

Cómpeta is the starting point of this magnificent trek to Granada. The first 3 nights you will be staying in pension Hadriano and you will make some introductory walks in the Parque Natural de las Sierras Almijara y Tejeda. On day 4 we will bring you by Land Rover to a pass where you cross the mountain range to the province of Granada descending to La Resinera. From there, while trekking to Granada, you will follow on beautiful trails and dirt roads the long distance route E4/GR7 to Nigüelas. Each day shows a different landscape. You will spend the night in a good 2 stars Spanish hostal in Jayena. The next night staying in a hospitable B & B in Albuñuelas with a friendly English couple. The last 2 nights staying in a good Spanish hostal in a quiet street in the very centre of Granada, where you will have the opportunity to visit the world-famous Alhambra.

Daily program

Day 1: Arrival in Cómpeta, circular walk (2 ½ hours)

Day 2: Circular walk Cómpeta (height 640 m)-Cerro Gavilan with outlookpost (1139 m)-Casa de la Mina (860 m)-Cómpeta (4 ½ hours)

Day 3: Transfer by Land Rover to Fabrica de Luz (700m) walk to Puerto Blanquillo (1208 m)-Cómpeta (5 hours)

Day 4: Transfer by Land Rover to the Puerto Blanquillo, then begins the walk via the Puerto de Cómpeta (1420 m) to La Resinera (890 m ) and then along the E4/GR7 to Jayena (7 hours)

Day 5: You walk along the E4/GR7 through the nature reserve first to Prados de Lopera and then to Albuñuelas (8 hours)

Day 6: You walk along the E4/GR7 by the Lecrin valley to Nigüelas (5 hours) where we will meet you and bring you with your baggage from Cómpeta to the city of Granada.

Day 7: Visit to the Alhambra

Day 8: Departure from Granada.

This walking trek is suitable for anyone with a good health and some walking experience. It is possible to shorten the walk on day 5.


  • Days 1, 2 and 3 in a 2-bedroom with a private bathroom in pension Hadriano Cómpeta.
  • Day 4 on the basis of half-board (breakfast and dinner) in a 2-bedroom with a private bathroom in hostal La Almijara in Jayena.
  • Day 5 on the basis of half-board (breakfast and dinner) in a 2-bedroom with a private bathroom in B & B Casa Azul in Albuñuelas.
  • Days 6 and 7 in a 2-bedroom with a private bathroom in hostal Casa Salvador in the centre of Granada.

All accommodations provide towels and bedlinen.


This trip can be booked from 01-01 to 31-12, so the whole year. But the months of July and August are too hot to walk here. Because the airlines often offer cheaper prices during the weekdays (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), this walking arrangement may start or end on each day of the week. Extra nights in pension Hadriano in Cómpeta costs €20 per person and additional nights in hostal Casa Salvador in Granada costs €25 per person.


To enjoy the longest walks (26 km respectively. 30 km) without worries about meals, dinner and breakfast will be provided at Jayena and Albuñuelas dinner and breakfast (on request vegetarian). Furthermore, you are free where you are going to eat. In pension Hadriano in Cómpeta you can cook or you can go out for a meal in one of the many tapas bars or restaurants in the vicinity. In Granada countless restaurants are available (Casa Salvador has a good restaurant). Each village has enough shops for you to buy your lunch for the day.

The group trek can also be booked individually, in that case you share the room with one of the other participants or pay a single supplement of €70. Minimum number of participants group trek: 6.

We recommend to buy a return ticket to Malaga. There are many cheap flights to Malaga airport. From the airport leaves every half hour a bus to the central bus station of Malaga (line 19, fare €1). From the central bus station Malaga a bus departs to Cómpeta (Loymerbus, fare €3.60): on weekdays at 11.30, 13.15 and 18.30 hours, on Saturday at 13.15 and 18.00 pm and on Sunday at 10.30 and 21.00 hours. From Granada 18 buses depart a day to Malaga, so there is almost always a good coach for your connecting flight from Malaga abroad, the first bus leaves at 07.00 am and arrives in Málaga at 08.45 hours, fare €8.95.


Your heavy baggage will be transported from Cómpeta to Granada. But you will have to carry your baggage for 2 overnights Jayena and Albuñuelas yourself, for which a small rucksack should be sufficient.
